ABOUT
The Seattle Art Book Fair is a free annual festival that celebrates independent publishing, book design, and artist books. The nonprofit event hosts local, national, and international artists, designers, and organizations and includes exhibitors, talks, workshops, and art installations. The fair is focused on building and expanding the community of booklovers and bookmakers in our region by bringing together seasoned practitioners and newcomers.
This third iteration of the fair will feature 80+ local, national, and international artists, designers, and organizations working in arts publishing. Additionally a series of free public programs ranging from talks, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations will take place starting Friday, May 9 till Sunday, May 11.
This year we’re also excited to welcome new work by Daniel R. Smith and Cecelia “Mika” Westman, recipients of the inaugural Page Turner Fellowship. Launched in late 2024, the Page Turner Fellowship provides a designer or artist who has not yet participated in an art book fair the mentorship and resources for a new work to launch at SABF 2025. Smith and Westman will share an exhibitor table and will also speak about their projects in a joint talk.
The fair is modeled after Printed Matter’s original New York and Los Angeles Art Book Fairs (established in 2006 and 2013, respectively). SABF joins the growing community of independent art book fairs on the west coast, including the Vancouver Art Book Fair, San Francisco Art Book Fair, and more.
The Seattle Art Book Fair is co-organized by Jayme Yen and Tom Eykemans, both of whom have worked in arts, design, education, nonprofits, and publishing for many years in Seattle, along with a dedicated team of volunteers and advisors.

WHAT IS AN ART BOOK?
Art books are a broad category of publications by artists, designers, and makers that reflect on books as a medium and publishing as an artistic practice. Art books often combine type, images, and materials in thoughtful ways that push the possibilities of what books can be. They can take the familiar forms of paperbacks, hardcovers, magazines, journals, and zines. They can feature narrative, poetry, photography, and illustration. They can be handmade, offset-printed, letterpressed, photocopied, screen printed, or risographed. Or, they can feature an unexpected medium or production method and take a surprising new form that allows one to experience the world in a whole new way.
VENUE
The fair will take place at the Seattle Central District’s historic Washington Hall. The beautiful venue has hosted the past two art book fairs, as well as other notable publishing events, including Short Run Comix & Arts Festival and the Seattle Urban Book Expo. Washington Hall was built in 1908 and renovated in 2016 and is fully ADA accessible. There will be a pop-up serving lunch food on-site and Creative Café will be open for coffee. Over 2,000 visitors are expected to attend the fair.
Organizers of the fair would like to acknowledge that the event is held on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present, and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.
SUPPORT
Admission to the Seattle Art Book Fair is free. SABF is an all-volunteer run organization and the event is supported by grants, donations, and exhibitor fees. SABF is an associated program of Shunpike, a Seattle nonprofit whose mission is to empower artists through equitable access to vital expertise, opportunities, and business services.
