On June 25, 2013, Texas State Senator Wendy Davis led an epic filibuster trying to stop a bill that would severely restrict women’s access to abortion clinics in the state of Texas. Why is this on my food blog? Because CNN reported on muffins instead.

It’s good to have a laugh at the ludicrous nature of CNN’s reportage, but a state senator stood for 11 hours with no breaks–not for food, bathroom, or just rest–and fought for women’s rights to our own bodies with every ounce of her being. Protestors packed the building, screaming and cheering for Davis to be allowed to speak. And the fight’s not over: She may lose her seat thanks to SCOTUS’s failure with the Voting Rights Act. Texas Gov. Perry has called a special session to try to pass the bill again. My home state of Ohio faces a similar bill.
What do we do?
We take our muffins and we FIGHT.
Contact Rick Perry (TX) and John Kasich (OH) and give them a piece of your mind.
Get involved with your local Planned Parenthood in Texas, Ohio, or elsewhere. Their mailing lists often have rally information and ways to contact your local lawmakers.
More resources? Send them my way.
I know this is “just” a food blog and that I wouldn’t even be posting this message on this particular medium if not for the muffin jokes, but our media outlets owe us the courtesy of reporting the damn news.
At some point “next time”: ACTUAL FOOD-RELATED CONTENT.
